Anyone have the LCE rear tube bumper, opinions?

Seems like a great price for a rear bumper. Any opinions on it? I noticed they say it's not tow rated, is that a pretty standard cya thing for most aftermarket bumpers so they don't need to spend extra money on any kind of official testing?

I have no experience with it, but it’s actually made by trail gear. Yes, it’s typical for off-road bumpers to not be tow rated as a legal CYA.

I have one of those and it serves the purpose well enough. I don't cringe when I walk up on it from behind, either. I gained quite a bit of clearance from the stock hitch location and never drag it on things anymore. I really just needed the hitch for my MTB rack, but I would tow a small boat or trailer with it and not be worried. The symmetry and tolerances are pretty good. The welds on mine are not real pretty. I did need to hog out a couple of the bolt holes to get them to line up with the threaded frame rail holes. Went through a couple drill bits and some cutting oil doing that. They certainly aren't pieces of art like the nice fab shop designs at 3x+ the price, of course. Whatever steel they used is fairly rust-resistant as I was in a hurry to go to the mountains and didn't paint or get it coated yet. I steel-wool the light surface rust it gets after lots of rain like we had here and spray with some WD-40 every now and then. I kind of like the natural color - it has mellowed to a tone very close to the 'topaz' hue on the Limited plastic body stuff. Eventually I'll coat it with something. Almost forgot - I waited 20-odd weeks for a front bumper and when I ordered one of these it shipped same day! You can probably find one in stock somewhere, too. That's a plus for me. It's also a one-man install with a floor jack, a board and a bit of balance.

These actually look good in my opinion and if I could find one used for a fraction of the cost I would be allllll over it like flies on, well, you know.

I'd take a rattle can to it or maybe spend the extra money on having it coated somewhere. I can't speak on the tow rating part, though. As long as I could utilize it as a recovery point for myself or others, I'd be happy with that.

So it says there are 2 1" recovery points, it looks like they are kind of behind the rear most tube of this thing though. Would these not let a bow shackle load correctly? Are they meant only for soft shackles? Also appear as if there are no tow chain attachment points? Doesn't that make it not road legal to tow with?

I think the hitch on these is more for accessories than towing. I'd do it in some cases, but not with a $75,000 boat. I'm going to bolt a hook to the frame rail but until then I have a block in the receiver that's only as strong as the locking pin! I didn't realize they consider those 2 holes recovery points - hope I don't have to use either.....

Yeah, that looks a heck of a lot like the Trail Gear bumper I have sitting in the garage waiting to be mounted. Same exact price too. Althought I got a discount using a code from JEGS. Paid $520 something after tax and shipping.

It seems to be well made. The welds are nice.

If you go on LCE performance website and click on the installation instructions for the bumper it has trail gear all over the installation document lol

Yep - like you said before - 100% Trail Gear. There are also a lot of companies in the "Trail Gear Family of Companies" that I'm too lazy to google but when I bought some stuff from Wheeler's a couple years ago I got the impression they had entered the umbrella....

I think you’re right about wheeler’s/trail gear. I think the whole package is Trail Gear/Low Range Off Road/All-Pro Off Road/Wheeler’s.
