I just read a thread on this site where a member was requesting someone manufacture custom brackets to mount a transmission cooler directly to the radiator support.
3rd Gen 4runner External Tranny Cooler Install w/ Radiator and Thermostat Replacement
I decided to share photos of the brackets I made to install a Hayden 698 in my son-in-law's 1997 SR5 4Runer. The brackets are made from 1"x1/8" flat bar and 1/8" plate. The bracket near the headlight is one piece. The bracket near the center is made of two pieces and welded together. I used two bowls to form the inside and outside radii of the curved piece. The bowls are 6-1/4" and 8-1/2" respectively. The top of the bracket near the headlight is attached to original passenger side horn mount with the original bolt. The rest of the fasteners are 1/4" bolts. The bottom of the center bracket is attached to the radiator support with a 1/4" rivet nut. Providing you can weld, these brackets are not difficult to make.
Like many others, I relocated the passenger side horn to the driver side. Instead of extending the wire, I pulled it from the loom.
While I was at, I replaced all of the transmission hoses, because the originals were becoming mushy.
