removing ignition cylinder without key

we can't find the keys. From reading other threads, it seems like I need to push that button up, and turn the key to the acc position. Can i use a screwdriver or something to turn it a little bit enough to get that pin to push up so that it comes out? Any one have experience with this? thank you. Meanwhile, the key search continues.

Take you’re owners card to the dealer and they will give you the key code. Then you can get a new key made.

unfortunately that is not an option. The vehicle, at one point, was stolen, and recovered, and the previous owner has previously switched out the cylinder.

Bummer, no key tag in the glove box?

I think he ordered a cylinder online somewhere. I'll look, but I doubt there is a record of it in the glove box. The miracle: whoever stole it took it for a joy ride, ran it out of gas, and left it, in great shape (minus all the tools stolen out of it). But we have it back!

I have a little experience on this situation since I had to grab a new cylinder barrel from the junkyard so I can replace the original one (snapped in 2 pieces). Drill the button (or pin) until it's flush and with whatever Toyota key you have insert it in the ignition and see if you can wrestle the cylinder out with just movement. Thats how I got the cylinder out of the junk one since it had no proper key for it. Might not work but worth a shot.
