The 4runner they found the perfect wire to chew thru, the crankshaft position sensor, that was an easy fix, the sequoia was not.

Lived here 16 yrs, first time this happens, anyone have experience on how to best keep the critters at least out of the engine bay?
Shoot, that's a bummer. If it was me, I'd sit out on the porch with my old Sears .22, glass of iced tea & get some squirrel lunch! Lol

My family had a similar issues growing up in Indiana but it was mice inside our boats. We bought these noise emitter things that worked good. Not sure if they still make them though. I've never been a fan of mothballs due to my dogs and possible cats but they do work.

THIS "I'd suggest popping the hood once a week "

I keep my occasionally used 2000 LC's hood open (same engine as Sequoia) at least 3-4 days a week: Weekends are for sure.

May be it's time for you to check the starter in the sequoia and get it replaced if it is bad. Make sure the intake area is clean before you pull the intake manifold as many 2uzfe's suffer cylinderwall scratches due to dirt getting in while removing the intake.

Honda makes (errr... sells) a capsaicin impregnated rodent tape for just this purpose.

Genuine Honda Rodent Tape - 4019-2317

We don't have quite the rodent issues that more modern vehicles have with soy-based insulation. I did get a small nest in my airbox once - but it was easy to get in there with my deckplate open. Otherwise, they have to go up behind the fender liner and in the intake tube there.

Wow - more great ideas - awesome forum - and isn't Honda proud of that tape at nearly $46 (for 65ft)? They probably should include a Free roll with each auto sale, haha. I have a friend who works at an acura dealer, I'll ask him for a roll at his discount.

Got both vehicles running again, no issues. I've already begun using some peppermint/garlic essence oils, leaving the hoods open every other night (security lights and cams in 3 locations all pointed at vehicles) and driving the Sequoia at least every 3rd day (he's mostly for long trips) but the 4Runner is my daily, so those very poor road-crossing tree rats better respect it, LOL.

Thank-You Everyone for the suggestions, I hope they help others. Funny, I used to think the critters were cute, not so much anymore...
