99 SR5 and Hopkins 43415 Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Kit questions

New to me 99 SR5 and my boat trailer lights are not working at all and the trailer lights are absolutely good. Does not appear to have the factory tow package and it was a port installed option and the lights spliced into the 10A fuse in the engine bay. I am picking up a multimeter this afternoon but this is clearly a common issue. If I pickup the Hopkinss 43415 wiring kit and follow their instructions, will I be whole again ? I don't see a controller on the drivers side anywhere and traced the 4 pin wiring hardness from the inside of the truck to the hitch. I am NO electrical wizard but I want to fix this so I don't get tagged with a ticket.

Thanks

I used a module like the Curt 56196 to replace the Toyota module that is behind the driver side trunk panel. Cheaper for sure, just use your meter to confirm what each wire is doing and wire it the same way.

I installed one of those kits--I forget which one--and the instructions ended up with the blinkers switched left for right. The only way to make it work was with the controller on the passenger side, instead of on the driver's side where the factory set up had it.

Yes, some of the kits sit driver's side, some passenger side. My '97 parts truck had it passenger side, my '99 OEM (dealer/port installed) was driver's side, my current aftermarket is passenger side, etc.

You need to pull back both sides to install anyway (need signals from both sides), so it doesn't really matter either way.

You'll be all good with a new trailer converter.

Yes the kits use the opposite side then the factory state side installed ones. [ factory drivers] rear light aftermarket [ passenger side] rear light.

I am almost certain mine was a hopkins. Passenger side hook in. As the darn thing burnt up again. I get to change it again. In the plus side at least when they fry they don't take out the rear lights just the trailer plug.

Be even better if they had reset circuit instead of burning up.

I called Hopkins and they were not much help. When I had issues with a different trailer last year one light didn't work and it turned out to be a bad ground. I went into the frame of the truck so my ground is good. Guess I will return it Monday for a different one. Annoying is not the word LOL.

Which side did you install it on? Passenger or driver. As I think they are Passenger install only.

When they burn up that's what happens. You loose a side etc.

However, verify it's not your trailer as that can be having issues and not the hopkins box.

Thanks, the trailer lights are brand new LED lights and I know they are good. I installed it on the passenger side per directions. Hopkins box is new from Amazon so I will return it and get a new one.

Thanks much
