Knuckle replacement

Hey guys, I’ve been looking for a replacement knuckle for my 98 runner 4 wheel drive at local pick n pulls, but have been coming up empty. Is there an interchangeable part on another vehicle that I might be able to use instead? Like a Tacoma or something.
Thanks

The early first gen tocumas should be the same. You can double check by using the website parts.toyota.com.

I called the other day, LQK only has 1 4x4 4runner drivers side spindle in the whole nation, located in Cali.

With press work and some extra parts, I would think you could convert the 2wd spindle to 4wd if need be.

The 3rd gens drivers side spindle share the same as Tacoma's, Sequoia's and Tundras. Do your research make sure all the internals match up to what you need.

Tacoma 4WD/prerunner 96-04 (make sure ABS equipped)
2WD 4Runner
2WD/4WD 1st gen Tundra and Sequoia

Obviously the 2WD has a different bearing/hub setup - but the knuckle itself is the same.

I have a '99 and a local mechanic recently bent a knuckle trying to press the wheel bearings out. I had resigned myself to going with Yota1 for about $1,500 but he found a pair somewhere. I think I would rather have gone with Yota1 than bearings of unknown condition, but, I'm already over budget on this vehicle.

Do people usually press the races out, or just put in new rollers and seals?

Tacomas would be a direct plug and play.

2wd 4runner or Tacoma would work but you’d need to press the wheel bearings, wheel assembly, etc and such out and transfer them from your 4wd to the 2wd. At that point might be worth putting in fresh wheel bearings if yours are original still.

I did a 2wd to 4wd conversion and pressed everything out of the knuckle (bearing races and all) no problem.

Quick clarification... 2WD 4Runner or 6-lug 1st gen Tacoma knuckles (4WD and PreRunner). 2WD Tacoma (5-lug) knuckles will not be compatible.

First, 2wd to 4wd...respect. That sounds like a lot of work. Second, it seems to be the consensus that due to wear and the need for precise alignment of the bearings to races, pressing them out is preferred. I"m going to give the mechanic (who has a great reputation) the benefit of the doubt and assume there was something wrong (rust?) with the bearing/hub/knuckle. However, this sounds like something I need to learn to do.

Oh! I'm just now figuring out that my previous experience is all on my 2WD F150...which uses rotors with pre-installed races. In the past, I've simply replaced the bearings when I replaced the rotors. With the 4Runner (4WD) the knuckle and hub assembly is completely different, and uses pressed in bearings. Okay. Now I'm tracking.
