ECT ECM... I might have to replace mine
Hey all,
I'm not sure if i mentioned this here or not. i might have to swap out my ECM... is there a reputable place that someone has dealt with that is trustworthy?
I guess either remove my old one send it in or buy one and just install it.
My dealer told me it's the only thing left to replace to eliminate a shift solenoid issue. the Transmission and the existing solenoid are good so they now think it's the ECM..
I wonder if unplug/plug might yield favorable results.
Thanks

Shift solenoids are controlled by the TCM not the ECM/PCM. The TCM activates them based on inputs from both engine and transmission sensors. You would start the troubleshooting process at these TCM inputs and all related circuitry. Dealers 😆

Thats my last work order.... I dont have the space or know how to repair this on my own- so i have to rely on the dealers. The local shops here are almost as expensive as they are... so that's where i have to go.
Any thing else you can tell me will be of big help.
Thanks.

All the mechanic there did was follow the service manual flow chart for that code. So all he did was test the solenoid and harness which were good. The service manual flow chart automatically says replace the TCM if they are good. This is retarded because the TCM receives several inputs from the transmission and PCM that control the solenoids. If one of these inputs is bad then the TCM can't operate the solenoids correctly even though there is nothing wrong with them.. you see what I mean. Read the link above it tells you all the TCM inputs required and how they affect the operation of the transmission. These inputs are where you should begin your diagnostic after what the idiot mechanic did. He skipped all the real work and says the TCM is bad. I would bet good money you problem would have remained after an unnecessary TCM replacement.

Thanks for the reply.
Well as of right now neither the TCM or the ECM has been changed. just for the sake of asking where IS the TCM located anyhow? Good ol flow charts....oh brother..

On the 3rd generation it's called the ECU ECT (electronic controlled transmission). It's actually integrated within the ECU. Located under the airbag behind the black plastic upper cover/trim piece of the glove box. Good luck!

There is no TCM. Only an ECM and it controls the transmission functions as well.

According to my Toyota EWD and FSM it's just called "engine control module". Maybe get your shit straight before spewing it out on the internet? I hope to not see you around again. Take care!
EDIT: In case I wasn't clear, post 8 is still incorrect.
