Ripper, is Maestro an App? I need this!

It doesn't have to be, there are harnesses that you can splice to the aftermarket head unit harness that go to the stock amp. That said if you are a big audio person you probably want a better amp but it you just want someone that works, the stick amp is adequate.

Ok so just making sure I get my ducks in a row before I place my Crutchfield order and pull the dash apart. I can just remove the stock amp? Then my head unit and harness plug into the existing harness, and that’s it? Is it that easy?

I just want to make sure I don’t get into it and then have to wait a couple days for parts before I can put everything back together.

Its an iDatalink link kit that allows your 4Runner to communicate with your head unit, for/like the Kenwood DMX models.

Do your self a huge favor. Go to a local car audio shop and price out what you want to do. This way you will know all you need and hopefully you decide to have them do it. This is no small project.

Its not as simple as just replacing the head unit and plugging it in, especially if you want good sound quality and Maestro integration. Besides, you will be spending over 1k on the head unit alone, do it right.

The stock amp uses the standard Toyota plugs on the back that go to the dash harness. The stock radio plugs into the amp. If you remove the stock radio and amp, the harness that is leftover to the dash will connect directly to what Crutchfield sends. If you aren't doing anything else crazy with the install, it is very easy.

Keep in mind you will have to add a connection for the e-brake (in some cases), microphone, backup camera if you are doing that, etc. The stock harness just has powers, ground, lighting and speaker connections.

I have this one and it’s flawless. You can adjust the height and angle so it doesn’t block the controls. I paired it with a Metra harness and it’s direct plug and play.

Any pictures of it installed? I like the idea of a floating screen that I can tilt.

None at all. I ran the microphone and stuck it on the steering column instead of mounting it on the headliner like most. Helps hide it I think too. If you do get it make sure to ground the e brake cable.

Anyone else using a floating screen head unit in their 4Runner? Can’t decide between a Boss floating screen or a flush fit Sony XAV.
