2 years ago I visited the "pick N' pull" and found a set of control arms in good shape. I had to "sawz all" the lower bolts off, as they were seized in the sleeves. My plan was to clean them up, push out the old bushings and paint, which is what I intend to do now. Then life got in the way. A friend gave me an Energy Suspension kit which includes upper and lower bushings. I don't daily drive my 4R so I put up with the sloppy steering till now. It's not comfortable to drive on the highway anymore and the alignment has got progressively worse. I anticipate I'll need my 4R more later this Summer (son's Wedding- hauling stuff!) so I think its time.
The problem is, I opened the ES kit and in the instructions they describe the procedure of RE-USING the metal sleeves from the old bushings!! WTF! Those went in the garbage 2 yrs ago! The whole reason I started this was to jack up the truck, drop the control arms(replacing the UBJ/LBJ as well), and replace them with the newly POR15/painted shiny controls arms! Minimum down time! I suppose I still have the bushings from the control arms in the truck, but having to go through the procedure they describe in the instructions defeats the purpose of all the prep I did. Has anyone recently done this job, and have their old bushings I can acquire? At this point, I ordered Whiteline LCA bushings as I got them on sale, so I'm looking for old UCA bushings. The on-line store I bought the LCA bushings doesn't have any UCA bushings left.
