Best set up is stock airbox, deckplate, elbow delete and silencer delete. Elbow delete makes the biggest difference, it's really chokes up the engine

what is the elbow delete ?
but back to the original question
over the years I have found ...for me... that the after market cold air intakes did nothing for me, plus the 4runner is getting cold air already from under the fender....unless that is what is reffered to above by elbow delete...
so I went back to a stock air box and did the deck plate mod. I took the cold air intake formed pipe and cut it to go between my mass air flow and the throttle body, thus deleating the resonator box.
As far as the deck plate mod, I have not opened it . but there if wanted. I also run a stock air filter, i have heard that even the k&N drop in filters ( in stock box) dont really help, you still have to oil them, and if you put on too much oil it gets to the mass air flow sensor
this set up is on my current 4runner, the box and intake pipe came off my wrecked 4runner. When I did the above mod on the first one, the same week I put on a borla free flow mufller. It made a nice combination and i thought I was getting a bit more power and mpg...but that could have all been in my head
