Unhappy Panic mode, tranny won't up shift.

so this morning my tranny decide to kick into first and stay there. and now it won't upshift at all.

little history:
  1. drown the truck 30k ago, ABS light came on, abs computer was underwater, everything else works fine. abs non functional
  2. once a while whenhitting rough road or a hard bump speedo will stop working and after a full stop will work again
  3. Did rear axle bearing and ditched the ABS ring since ABS was non functional, 8k ago, everything works fine.
  4. swapped CV axle, notice speedo stopped working, 7 days ago
  5. Starting throwing p0500 code First time, 5 days ago
  6. Drive 200 miles to go wheeling, drove 200 miles back, everything functional
  7. Drove truck this morning, when in 2nd or 3rd gear the truck shifted itself into first, now it will not up shift.

So here i am no idea what's wrong, cleaned abs sensor, checked tranny fluid(clean and full), clear code/hard reset. nothing truck is stuck in first.

4hi, 4low reverse all works, putting it in D,2,1 does not change anything, shift linkage correct position.

Help guys, HELP ME!!!!!!!!

Did you try that little shift override button right by the shifter to get it out of first gear?

Probable miss understanding the question.

The shifter works fine, it's the actual tranny that doesn't want to shift.

its not recognizing the pressure build up to know that it should shift.
put the truck in N and run it. (could that get the fluid hot again and get some circulating through the tranny?

You say its just wont go into any other gear while moving, but will shift manually with the shifter in all the gears.

kick down is hooked up, no idea how to test servo, wont shift out of first with shifter in D,2 or 1

you can try pulling the battery (try and reset the computer if it put its self in limp mode)
or my next bet (most likely) a ball in the valve body is stuck or something is clogged preventing it to shift fluid in the valve body.

maybe, depend how much crap is left in there. you dont want to break it loose and have it flow through the valve body.

it might tho.
most shops are able to do a flush and only recommend flushes if the tranny has been kept clean. but if the condition is unknown, generally drain and fills are recommended instead.
but you see with a drain and fill your only getting about a 1/3rd of the fluid out. there is still a ton in the tranny as well as the torque converter thats bad fluid.

that sucks man. you might need a valve body rebuild and cleaning.
(maybe your pump went out, its not circulating the fluid)
sorry but im going to bed. good luck and i will ponder over this problem tonight. we will get it!!!

in "D" mode trans will not up shift out of first and you can't manually shift it to 2nd - sounds like to you may have line pressure problem. You can keep asking for advise here and still don't know; or, you can save yourself some money and time and just have the pro.'s look at it. So my advice - go the dealer and pay their daig. labor fee to get good diag. of your problem.

I'd check into the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) first. Which is what the PO500 code is for.

A malfunctioning VSS can cause erratic shifting, and some of the other symptoms you mentioned.

However, since the truck was flooded, it could be corrosion in the vehicle wiring, ECU, and/or connectors that has finally become bad enough that various circuits now only have intermittent continuity.
