Cracked my dash trim changing my head unit

Well I cracked my dash trim when I installed my new Sony head unit in my 2002 sR5. I see a few on eBay for around 200 but I was wondering if anyone here had a black one laying around for some reason before I went the eBay route. Didn’t see anything at my local you-pick.

Would something like this work?

How about a pick n pull type junk yard?

I mean over $100 is really pricey for a small piece of plastic....

It would but it does not look or feel the same as the OEM plastic. It's a real art to remove the center dash without breaking it. I used to sell center dash for about $100-$120 5 years ago pre-inflation. More for the ones with wood trim, the glue made the plastic extremely brittle over time. $200 sounds about right due to increased scarcity of parts. I don't have any left now though.

I agree on the pick and pull option. Do quick jerks to get the prongs to pop out. Where people go wrong is they slowly try and pry it out and it stresses the plastic until it cracks. A quick jerk in the right spot and it just falls right off the dash.

I found the best way to pull the 99-02 center bezels is to rotate the air vents down and grab there. Use quick movements when dealing with any interior trim metal/plastic clip.

I just replaced this piece of trim in my '97, the 01-02 models seem to have a lot of issues with the digital climate control, nowadays. I grabbed a replacement OEM black trim from a Facebook marketplace part-out. The quick-snatch removal method works great on them, as Bad_Luck mentioned. They don't like going slow.

I found this online, would this be an option to replace the cracked trim? All of my vents, clock, and buttons work. Would I just remove them from the cracked one and install into this? I can't find anything near me at a you-pull or facebook marketplace.

If it looks like the stock photo for the part you linked then that will fit a 96-98.

I used a different parts diagram website and came up with the same part number for 99-02 so it must just be a bad stock photo. However, everywhere I look shows to be discontinued so I wouldn't get your hopes up. Some toyota parts websites will let you order it then cancel the order later. You might try the 3rd gen 4runner enthusiast buy/sell/trade group on facebook. There's usually people parting out 4Runners on there. I usually buy my used parts from Joey at the 4Runner House in Dallas, TX. PM me if you want his contact info.
