ARB Bumper and Badlands Apex winch

Hey gang, looking for some info on fitment… have a new ARB bumper about to go on the ‘98. Wanting to mount a badlands apex 12000 but cannot find good dimensions, at least not the ones i need. Also the clearance between the bumper’s winch mount plate and radiator supports etc. Would be extremely useful

Any of you guy’s running the ARB mind posting up some measurements?

Anybody successfully paired this winch to the ARB bumper?

What does ARB say?

They should know which models fit their bumpers.

Officially, ARB says… Warn

- m8000
-XD9000
-9.5 XP

Along with one other that must be discontinued.

I know other winches have been installed in these bumpers, just can’t find any intel on the Badlands… either the Apex nor Xpr models. I picked up the Apex 12000# today. It fits in the bumper, just dont know yet if it’ll clear the radiator supports and what not.

ARB mounts the winch "feet forward" which means you need to be able to clock the freespool handle to the appropriate direction and have a remote solenoid pack. Otherwise, install the bumper and measure clearance!

I run a ZXR 9k on my Schrockworks (RIP) bumper that has similar mounting/clearance - but it has the old 'normal' cross-supports, not the newer cast style that eat up space.

Yeah, with the new crossbars, I actually think the ZXR would have less clearance than the APEX with control pack relocated... but the APEX will not allow you to rotate the free-spool actuator.

Mounted "feet forward" the APEX fits into the bumper just fine, seems I might be able to reach the actuator by reaching up from underneath... not ideal for sure. Clearance to the truck's bits will be the true limiting factor

We will see soon enough, i went ahead and grabbed the APEX on black friday sale. If it doesnt work, guess I will return and regroup... just waiting for the 4Runner to get back from the body shop.

I ended up selling my Apex for this exact reason, didn't want to deal with the clearance issues as well as the added weight of a 12k winch. I remember seeing a thread somewhere regarding this exact issue (vaguely remember them chopping the free spool lever at an angle for clearance) but can't seem to find it anymore. If you end up making this work it would be great if you could document the process of getting it to work. Good luck man!
