I've only made one reply on this board, not counting this one. This post and Sean's post on the ad's got me thinking that I should be contributing more. I'd like to think for every basic question post, such as asking how to fit 33s etc, there's at least 10 other newer members like me who are just reading the older stuff and figuring things out, not wanting to look like the newbs we are.
I've only had my 3rd gen for a year, but this website, and the multitude of 3rd gen YouTubers, have proven invaluable. I'd hate to see these communities fade away. I recently joined some FB groups and it's worse, lol. I don't want the party to end, I just got here 😂

Couldn't agree more with this. i just hate to see a forum that could be so useful taken over with ads and garbage posts. I realize that there are those who are new to the automotive world and everyone starts somewhere, heck I learned most of what I know through this forum, youtube, Timmy's vids, and trial and error. But it gets old seeing what seems like a new misfire post or something else everyday when there's thousands of threads alrady. I'm by no means an expert, but I've built computers and messed around with different systems and server os's where it seems like the forums software could be updated easily enough by someone with some knowledge granted I may be competely wrong on this. I am by no means for "big brother" style mods where things like
@ mtbtim
s vids get banned for being "spam" but it would be nice to see the owners or mods at least do some upkeep, and I'd they don't use the forum / have time to keep things up then pass on the baton to someone who does. I'm not trying to attack the mods or owners in saying this as I realize life happens and we all have things come up. But if you look at any business or other clubs / communities where the owner / leadership is no longer able to support the community then usually it gets transfered to those who can.

One thing I designed and has become my best selling 4Runner part is this:
Burtman Japan style rear spoiler
I love these trucks and still have my 1997 that I bought in 1999! And I know what you guys mean. I've been on this forum since 2002! THere is good info that google picks up.

getting to 15 Replies
I used to be part of this forum then many years went by and I had to just re-join. I've been trying to just tool around and reply to as many threads as possible letting everyone know I'm new and trying to get information. All has been accepted until today I was told to "STOP HIGH JACKING THE THREAD AND JUST START YOUR OWN THREAD". It's a bit difficult to get to 15 replies if you don't have anything to contribute. That being said, this is my 15th comment. So hopefully I'll be able to start creating my own threads here.
I've been a 4th gen owner for 16 years. I first came here to get info and inspiration to lift my 04 t4r. Id a cheap lift and now it's time to do more. My 16 year old son is now going to take over the 4runner we bought when we had him. 4runners are awesome vehicles. getting into this forum is a great thing. but it has now become so hard to get info due to this 15 post/reply thing.
Anyways, I'm looking for a step by step OEM transfer case swap. if anyone can point me in the right direction, that would be great!

It looks like you need the 4th gen section. This is in the 3rd gen section. Here's a google search that's specific to the 4th gen section that might help: https://www.google.com/search?q=site...t=gws-wiz-serp
Good luck!

I'm new, sorta ....
Joined a while ago but missed out on the 4runner I was looking at.
Since getting my 4Runner I have been trying to add relevant content in whatever topics I found that pertain to it. It's not hard ... but people take the path of least resistance.
I've always been a fan of forums vs FB. But....
While I was shopping recently I had a bunch of questions about the ones I was looking at but couldn't post in here with those questions. So I had to ask those questions elsewhere.
I DO understand the idea behind the 15 post minimum.
The problem is that elsewhere (FB) you don't have those restrictions.
So new people are going to flock to those groups for instant help, then they set the pattern of going there and never come here.
That doesn't help growth.
Maybe it would benefit the forum to have a "newbie" area where people can make posts while they are shopping for a 4Runner?

I don't remember it being a big deal when I joined to start posting but maybe this thread is for that: https://www.toyota-4runner.org/new-members/

I assure you the forum is still alive, albeit certainly down from it's peak usage from the circa 2010 era.
While I don't frequent (post, create, mod) as much as I use to I still poke my head in.
Most security and feature parameters are in place that allow us (mods) to not have to police as much as we use to back in the day.
There's also so many 'hurt feelings' reports that we sort of let them get worked out on their own, otherwise we'd have to be on here multiple times a day. If extreme, someone steps in.
Mods are usually on top of 'spam' posts within a day or 2.
Regarding new members, yes there is a 15 post min required before thread creation.
However, the problem these users are having with not being able to reply sounds like a verification issue.
If the account is not verified, if won't let you do anything, but still lets you log in.
If they've been a long standing member and something happened to where they cannot post, then they need to be reset.
I would say, at the very least, have them change their email address in their account and reverify.
If they can't then I would need a list of users to request to reset, which required admin privileges to do. I can't for sure say how quick that request gets handled though.
