OK, stupid question, but I've never had this problem before: What is a good adhesive to hold the brake and clutch pedal pads (the rubber cover/pad on the pedals)?
99 T4R, 5spd, 5VZE, recently rebuilt engine, not that it matters.

Both my brake and clutch pedals are constantly dropping their rubber pads off when I drive.
Gas pedal still holds good and tight. I can hook them back on, especially when the heat is on, making them softer and easier to hook over the pedal.

I was just wondering what a good adhesive/glue/etc to hold those darn pads on might be. Any advice would be appreciated.

Now that it's winter, I won't be "glueing" anything until summer get's back, since nothing will cure worth a darn in the cold, but I was wondering what y'all might use.
Or do you all just leave them off? I like them on better to give me grip on the pedals when I first get in with wet feet, from walking through the snow to get TO, let alone into, the truck.

You could try your local skate shop and get a little bit of grip tape and trim to fit the pedals without the pads attached at all.

Also, are they the original pads? If so, you can buy new ones (I did my brake pad and it was a perfect fit) and throw them on
without any adhesive issues.

I replaced mine, that's the real solution. Especially the clutch one, that one falls off the most.

If you need to glue, there's not much that sticks to metal that isn't permanent. Your best bet will be a rubberized adhesive like E6000 Amazon.com. You won't catch me without this stuff ever. It's water proof, flexible and will set in the cold. Actually have more issues in our 100+ days as it dries too fast. You'll want to apply a large patch of it rather than a thin coat everywhere. Can put a nice bead around the top of the pedal pad on the back to discourage it from slipping off too. It dries completely clear.

Toyota has probably been using the same brake/clutch pads since the '80's. Just replace them once they start falling off. There is a full retaining lip around the whole thing that should keep it in place without adhesive.

I've put them on just using the lip around the edges, and that's what keeps letting loose. Maybe a couple new pads are the key. I've put new pads on my 87 pickup, and 87 4Runner when I still had it. They're still on, so I know how. I think these are just old and the lips around the edges are getting weak/worn out. I'm pretty sure they're factory installed, so yeah, they're pretty old and dry/stiff.

I'm also going to try some of what's known as "Alien Tape", a double-sided, very thin tape, that holds very strongly. It uses what's known as "gecko foot" technology. They studied geckos, to see what makes their feet stick to everything so well, without any form of adhesive at all. Totally dry, stick to smooth glass, ceramics, metal, leaves, branches, you name it. They found that it's not suction, but that they have microscopic hairs growing out of their foot pads, that get into the spaces between the molecules of the surface the gecko wants to stick to. Virtually unbreakable bond. If you've ever tried to pick a gecko off a window, or whatever, you know how tight they stick! I have, and they really do.
When they want to let go, they alter the angle of touch to the surface, and the little hairs just slip out. We'll see how well they've managed to copy what nature developed millions of years ago...

If that holds for just a week or so, that will be long enough for me to get new pads shipped in.
