How do you change out the fuel door lock mechanism?

Hey Guys,

It seems like the locking mechanism that keeps my fuel door closed is stuck. The pin is all the way in there and i think i made it worse my pushing on it a bit (hoping to get it unstuck). I sprayed some grease, hoping to get it unstuck but i also ordered another unit.

Does anyone know how to change out the unit? I'm assuming its behind the driver side panels in the trunk? Do you just remove the trim and gain access to it or is there another way?

Thanks!

Use a debit card to slide in and release the mechanism. Old shady trick to get inside.

Yeah i found the part # and ordered it from my local dealership. It's a 20 dollar part. It should be behind the side panel in the back...but i'm not 100% sure. I had gone offroading and i think just enough dust got into it that it jammed it in the retracted position...

The hinge on the gas door needs lubricated from time to time. Same with the Plunger.. If stuck open. I would very everything is moving properly. Then verify the plunger is catching the latch on the gas door. Sometimes they can bend and not catch anymore.

Alright...so you can find the fuel door lock mechanism inside the driver side rear panel in the trunk. You have to remove a few screws and once you pop off the panel, you'll see it right there.

Then you have to remove the bolt from the fuel door side and the mechanism comes right out.

The thing was completely dead....the spring had no return to it even after cleaning it completely. 20 bucks from the dealer.
