Moon mist 1999-2000 center console lid

Hi guys,

I have a 1998 4runner with the moon mist interior and I recently was able to find a moon mist center console without a heater from a 1999 4runner. I am doing the upgraded center console swap into my truck. Overall the console is in great condition but I want to get a new console lid since the one on it has some nicks and holes and stuff in the vinyl cover. I was able to find a part # for the moon mist console but there is no pictures or anything and the only information I can find is that the production date for that lid is 07/98'-08/2000. I asked my local Toyota parts guy but he needs the VIN to confirm fitment. For some reason the guy I got the console off isn't responding to my messages or calls anymore. Could anyone with a 1999 or 2000 4runner with the moon mist interior post me there VIN here thanks!!

Part # is 58905-35040-B0

I went through this with my 1998 too.

The best way I've found of knowing if the console will work is looking at the door tag in the vehicle. There will be a line like "C/TR KF9/FR17". The 17 is the important part.

The 17 is the color code. From the best of my knowledge the moonmist will end in 16, the dark grey will end in 17, and oak will end in something else. This is based off my observation and experience.

Older 4runners tend to be the moonmist (the blue-ish one). Even if you have
the window sticker, Toyota called it grey. Mine doesn't say moon mist anywhere on it.

Here are some relevant examples on BAT:
Moonmist (specified by seller)
Moonmist
Another Moonmist
1996 4runner with moonmist
The other dark grey non-moonmist

People rarely specify between moonmist grey or dark grey. Even my window sticker just says grey, not moon mist.

I see. Interesting. For me it's really easy to tell the difference between the two greys and they look not very a like, at least in person. Even over the screen I can tell. Moon mist is blue-grey while the 2001-2002 grey is like brownish grey. Most people probably never notice the difference between the two which it is not often specified.. I mean grey IS grey. That's funny Toyota just calls it grey regardless though, funny. Anyways. Thanks for sending me those bring a trailer posts. I wouldn't have thought to look on BAT to get the vin. I just needed a VIN is all, one of course that has moon mist. I'll send the parts guy that vin and hopefully that part # checks out! cheers.

I don't think you're going to find a new console lid in moon mist, unless a dealer has one lying on the shelf. I went through this a few years back, restoring the interior of my 2000 with moon mist interior. At 20+ years the new interior parts are being discontinued, so NLA. I scrounged up the best used parts i could find, junkyard expeditions, guys parting out cars, and Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market. Patience is key....

Yep, that part number I found is unfortunately the wrong one. I emailed the parts guy with the vin from that moon mist 1999 last night he says its calling for the part number ending in -070-B1. I guess I just have to go to a local reupholstery shop and have them match the color of the cover. hopefully they can do that lol.

What I don't understand is why the moon mist part # for the newer console lid is discontinued lol. The 96-98 one is still available to buy but not that one. You can still buy the oak colored 1999+ one too. Doesn't make sense to me lol. Why discontinue one but keep making the others c'mon Toyota.

They also pop up on ebay, this one isn't perfect but might be repairable and it's cheap.

The older ones are discontinued too - but they just have stock on the shelf because nobody wants them...

There are two different 'oak' interior color sets too, so you aren't alone with the 'grey' issues.

Oh boy toyota hahaha. What I don't understand is that their simplicity with their parts is the best and they make things all the same like all the bolts are the same size on an assembly so you can't mess it up or certain things like two electrical plugs that are right next to each other are different so you can't confuse the two but they chose to be complicated with stuff like the interior color. Would've been a lot easier if they stuck to one shade of oak or grey . i didn't know there was two shades of the oak color too. That's funny haha

Yeah I actually saw that one on ebay too.. Just the holes are what concern me. I want to just have one with no holes or tears. But I know that's hard given the age of our cars. I've been calling around reupholstery shops around here in orange. I'll probably end up doing that since they can match
the color and whatnot (hopefully). I appreciate sending that listing though. Maybe I will buy it anyways haha it's cheap!
