Antenna mod

I wanted to share my recent antenna mod that I did on my 99 4runner. I have been enjoying all of the info here and wanted to contribute. I researched antenna mods here and came across a couple of nice options but I think mine is the easiest and fastest.

bought a $9 amazon antenna, like this(I have no affiliation with this company): Amazon.com

it came with a bunch of options

I simply attached them in this order. *note, I did change that lock-washer to a plain washer due to depth. the lock was too fat. use a plain washer.

then, just screw it on.

I left the original motor and everything hooked up. yes, the motor still energizes. I have an aftermarket head-unit so I just cut the blue wire to stop that from occuring. this method makes it so you dont have to pull a new antenna wire through, open your wheel well, mod your existing antenna, etc.

easy, hope this helps someone!

This is a great alternative to the taco whip mod. I'm going to have to check this out! I'm curious if the threaded base can be used for a different antenna. Looks great though!

yes, I'm sure that the base could be used for a different antenna. The bigger copper base just barely fits into the oem antenna hole, making contact/reception. you could then screw on any antenna. shorty or whip.
