Can a worn driver side seat cushion be swapped with the almost new looking passenger?

Can a worn driver side seat cushion be swapped with the almost new looking passenger seat cushion?

How hard is it to get the seat cushions off (and back on) to test it out?

Notice how worn one edge is because of the seat belt.

You've got base 3rd Gen seats. On those the front seat seat bottoms are interchangable, only issue will be the passenger air bag sensor. The bottom cushions come out as a sub-assembly. Remove entire seat, plastic side panels, then the bottom cushion is removed from the seat frame via 4X bolts. I can't remember if the drivers side has the same air bag sensor, (don't think it does). Both seats also have seat belt sensors. Note this also applies to the sport seats, with larger side bolsters.

I'd look around at parts cars for a decent passenger seat, buy that and use it for your drivers side. So your passenger side doesn't look like s***. I've done this and recall zip tieing the passenger air bag sensor plug since there is no connection on the drivers side.

Seat back foam/covers can also be swapped, but much more involved. You need to pull the covers/foam off the frames.

They are a direct swap L to R from a foam and cloth perspective. If you have '96-'98, there is no passenger seat sensor to worry about. If you have a '99-'00, the sensor is there but only lights the dash light (no affect to the airbag system. If you have an '01-'02, the passenger sensor does affect the airbag system, but can bet swapped with some care and spray adhesive. If you want/need to swap occupancy sensors, you will have to remove the hog rings and re-install, which is annoying but doable.

yes, i can confirm that on the 3rd gen, the bottoms are interchangeable. I grabbed a mint condition oak leather passenger bottom for my worn-out drivers seat. worked great
