Rear Seat Permanent Removal for Overlanding

I am thinking of permanently removing the Rear Seats on my Gen 3 to be able to create a flat cargo deck. I would probably cut a piece of 3/4" Plywood for the deck and add some L-channel to be able to secure gear.

My rear seats are in the folded down position 99% of the time. but I would want this modification to be reversible.

Anyone have any advise and pics they could share?

Thanks.

just remove the seat bottoms and head rests, then it folds flat and gives you the head room to sleep, 4 bolts and easy to reinstall, you could even install studs and tap the correct sized SAE wing nut for the metric thread making it a tooless removal, or weld half a washer to the existing bolt.

Use the 'advanced search' in the stickies at the top of the forum subsection (google search with site:https://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/ as one of the terms) and search for sleeping platform builds. Plenty of options...

I’d suggest using bolts instead of permanent welding or adhesive to make it reversible. This way, you can easily remove the plywood and L-channel when needed.
