Seats....

Hi guys,

So I have been on the hunt for a set of 1996-1997 moon mist sport seats for freaking ever now. When I started looking like 8 months ago i found a guy on markplace selling a set, the driver was clapped beyond belief. But the passenger was mint. I bought it for like 200 bucks i think. Since then I have tried and looked forever to find a driver. Feels impossible lol. I did find a person on ebay selling one but they want 650 bucks and the cover has a rip on the bottom and the left side bolster foam is gone.. what a rip off. At this point I think I am going to consider not looking for 4runner seats for my rig. I don't think I'll ever find a driver that isn't clapped out. Most good sets people are keeping obviously so not for sale. I've looked at a few toyota seats but due to the way our seat legs are id definitely have to do some mods. And for anyone wondering why I am going through this trouble it's because my driver seat has a couple decent size rips in it and the bottom foams in both front seats are also clapped out. They are bouncy and the foam is deteriorating day by day. They squish bad too. They are comfy still but the ride on old foam is not the best. I also want the heigh adjustment dial as well thats one big thing i want. There's no heigh adjustment on my current seat. With that said does anyone know if there's any seats from other toyota models that fit in to ours or any other ideas for non 4runner seats? And to answer questions that will be asked I don't want anything like a corbeau with the goofy custom seat rails. I dont want racing seat's. Something like the sport 4runner seats is perfect though. I was thinking about the sportier looking 2nd gen tacoma seats with the extended leg cushion. Those look real nice. I would probably have to do some welding for that. I am kinda tired of my worn out foams lol. Need a solution.

I don't have anything to add but when I get around to replacing my seats, I'm going with something in black leather from Germany.

Have you considered swapping over the cushion and overs from a passenger seat to the drivers seat? That is what I did with mine. The passenger seat was in decent condition, so I bought another passenger seat that was in good condition and swapped over everything to the driver seat

As long as you don't have lumbar on the drivers seat, the foam AND fabric/leather swaps left to right... Get two passenger seats in the right color and put it one of them on your driver's side frame.

This works best for '96-'98 when there is no occupancy sensor in the passenger seat... later models you have to deal with that issue, but it is still fixable. I put '97 seats in my '99 and just move the sensor over (and swapped seat bottoms from L to R for better comfort). This was with the much easier to find Oak interior though...

Well.....I'm looking at salvaged/junkyard BMW seats among others. Also Lexus. No rush, might just start with the driver. My leather driver's seat is fully shredded but the passenger is still rather good. I hear you on the heat issue, but I try to keep the interior cool whenever it's possible. We may have 99 problems according to the doom loop, but heat ain't one in SF. Trips to Death Valley and the Mojave are another story, but I'm usually so stoked to be there I don't notice comforts as much.

This is a good option but the thing is I am also looking to get seats with more adjustability. i only have the recline and back and forth adjustment right now

Lol it's more so here because like if I am at work for 8 hours my 4runner will be baking in the sun all day and then i leave and it's already an oven in there enough. I couldn't imagine leather seats lol. Usually takes 10 ish mins i run the ac / fan right away and the center console and steering wheel are comfortably touchable. Idk I just hate hot cars lol. I would be freaking out if my legs and butt were on fire too. haha

Good info here. And yeah my current seats don't have lumbar or anything so the straight cushion swap would work. I can't find anyone selling a new cushion for the non sport seats. and i feel like trying to find the moon mist non sport seat 96-98 pattern cover is just as hard lol. My plan would be in a perfect world is if and when I do get both sports seats ill buy new bottom foams and have them reupholstered with those. Typically i've found the back cushion is fine and not worn out like the bottoms always are. But according to toyota parts deal you can still get the bottom cushion but only the sport ones. And there's aftermarket companies too but again only the sport cushion. I'll still keep an eye out for sports seats. I mainly want those for the extra bolstering and the adjustability too. the height adjustment along with lumbar would be a great touch. well see what happens. But for now im just gonna keep running it lol. Appreciate your reponse

Dang man - I use a sunscreen on the windshield and have the rear door windows vented and can park in direct sun all day. I haven't ever used the AC except in triple digits in the desert.
