Value idea?

I've got a 99 T4R Highlander that my son is interested in. He moved to Montana earlier this year and is looking for a vehicle. His Chevy P/U didn't make the trip.
So while I could just gift it to him where's the life lesson in that? Thoughts on a fair market price?
Black, all stock except for trans cooler. New rad, TB etc done in the last 50K, a couple of slow windows. Not sure if the sun roof works, it too was getting slow. PA car so there is frame rust. Rear shock punched thru so it has SRQ frame mounts, gas tank straps replaced. ABS light on, don't really care if it works since ABS sucks. Occasional CEL for probably MAS needing cleaned. Body pretty good for 25yo. Rear bumper replaced. Interior is pretty good. Drivers seat lower bolster fabric just started to separate. Always reliable. Uses maybe 1qt oil per 5K.
KBB says $2500-3000. I'll get to make the 36 hour drive.
Appreciate any input.

Whatever the gas cost to drive it out there

and get a flight home. Sounds like a rusty mess.

He lived off of your dime for years and now is the time to recoup some of that cost. Just think of all the times he left the lights on for no reason and wasted food or needed medical care.

Sounds like the frame is gone, or damn near at the least. So I'd say a whopping $0, because anything number you come up with he can most certainly find a similar 4Runner far less rusty for the same price
Not sure what lesson you're trying to teach by scamming your child during a time of need by selling them a rusty death trap, but that's just me

Will the truck pass a state certified inspection? If so, and it's considered safe to drive and won't put your son or other drivers at risk, why not gift it to him? Is he into doing his own repairs and mods? It may be a good platform for him to work on and also drive at the same time. That is, only if it's safe for him to drive.

When I was in high school, many friends had their cars given to them by their parents and didn't have to pay a dime. I did not have that luxury and didn't get my first vehicle until a month after I graduated high school, which I paid for myself ($3200 for a 96 base 3RZ). If you're in a position to help your child like that, just do it, no question about it.

It needs to be safe to drive, though.

Well, that's some input.
To answer the serious question, yes it will pass PA state inspection no problem. Specifically had the mechanic look for anything else needing to be fixed when he did the rear shock relocation. And I'll ask him to have another look in a few weeks when the AC gets fixed.
All the vehicles that my son has looked at out there appear sketchy. At least with this one we know what we've got.
As far as "life lesson". Yeah, opened myself up for that one. Great that you all can be so generous. We've helped our kids out quite a bit, cars in HS. Cars in college. Tuition. He's not hurtin for funds. I suspect he'll be looking at new ones in a year or two.

Is he an adult? then yeah, go ahead and make some money back that you spent on him growing up lol
