Only 4k Miles on Denso IK22 Spark Plugs

1999 5vz TRD Supercharged + URD 7th. Cali Emissions. ~245k miles

Truck's been supercharged for 60-70k miles by now, runs great when I've got new plugs in it.

I put some new Denso IK22's in it around 220k, they lasted about 20k miles and still looked pretty good except for the cylinder that had a bad coolant leak. The ground on that one was tore up. The previous set had 40k miles on them. They were still running good but they were very tired.

At the same time i did my headgaskets i went ahead and installed an OEM front o2 (a/f), OEM MAF, a Denso Fuel Injector Upgrade Set from MotorWest while i was in there.then of course the new Denso IK22's. The Walbro 190lph fuel pump and WIX fuel filter have <5k miles on them too.

This new set of plugs only lasted about 4k miles and they look like they have 100k on them.

What can I learn from the condition of these plugs? The 3 from the passenger side with the coil packs on them all look exactly like this.

For reference, here is an old one (LEFT) that had like ~10k miles on it (it was replaced into the leaking cylinder before i was able to do the headgasket). It even looks like a completely different construction

Because they look so different and wore out so quickly I'm even wondering if they are fakes. I bought both sets on Amazon (next set will be from Napa)

That looks wild. Well I can say they ik22 on the right that has the striped and hollow looking end cap is usually used on motorcycles. I ran them on my miata when I converted them to coil on plug.

There a few things, fakes or there might be to much amperage going through them blowing them out. To hight cylinder temps. All your grounds ok? Do the coils ohm out good?

Oh lord jesus... Yeah, those are fakes. They are basically ALL fakes on Amazon (and eBay) - same is true for NGK plugs.

Thx for the tips, I'll check that out soon after I replace these plugs. Gonna be installing a big 7 wiring upgrade soon, would be good to check that.

TBH this is good news for me. Much easier to just buy good plugs instead of having to chase down a real issue. Thank you

Rock auto is the only place I'll order online, if I need them asap, I'll buy from any auto parts store.

I've got to many fakes from Amazon and ebay.

If they are Amazon/eBay spark plugs get them all out ASAP! The knockoffs are known for the ground electrode (little arm) to break off causing piston to hit it full compression and may cause catastrophe. Rockauto or part stores are the only known places to get genuine plugs.

+123456 For ordering from RockAuto or another reputable online retailer. Definitely not worth any savings you may yield ordering from Amazon or eBay. RockAuto has relatively quick shipping in my experience and is worth the wait. If you’re able to still return those plugs I’d start an Amazon refund asap before the window closes.

Yup I got mine off amazon for my prius and a 5k or less later it started miss firing. I removed and same thing, nothing left.

Like other said, I learned to buy from local autozone or what not from now on for those.

Supercharger - single electrode plugs, changed twice as often.

After my last IK22 change I went down the spark plug rabbit hole. If I am not mistaken we should be able to run either of these plugs given that they are the same heat range 403 Forbidden or 403 Forbidden

I haven't pulled the trigger on either yet but want to in the next 10k.
