New ball joints loose.

Hi,
I bought two OEM lower ball joints for my 2001 4runner. One of them is so tight that I can barely move it. The other one can be moved very easily with two fingers. It's not sloppy, but it's nothing like the other one. Is this normal? I called the dealer and they said they've seen both. I'd like the opinion of others before I instal it or take it back.

Thanks!

Take it back, they should be tight.

Where’d you get the ball joints? I’m looking to get mine replaced soon on an 03 v8 I just picked up.

Whys that? I have yet to see anything odd from Amayama. Parts sometimes come in a bag marked EAC rather than Toyota, but they come direct from the manufacturer before Toyota slaps their label on it.

Ok! That was one of the reasons I was getting a bit spooked.
I was seeing labels on top of other labels etc.
I don't really know a whole ton about the parts source, and in
years past everything arrived in typical Toyota packaging.

Good to know it's not as suspect as I was beginning to believe!

A really good choice for ball joints is Senkei 555 ball joints. Made in Japan. Quite often, 555s are available from Rock Auto boxed by Beck Arnley.

Water under the bridge, so this is purely a data point for this thread should others come across it.

I've always avoided Amazon etc, and the whole "the cheapest price is the only thing that matters" mentality?

Everything I've ordered from McGeorge (Now Ourisman Toyota) has been fairly priced, 100% legit, shipped fast, and hassle free. That's worth more than saving $13, IMHO.

In fact, the last was my OEM, LBJ's, and they were precisely what I wanted and needed them to be.

Does Amayama ship items that are not in TOYOTA package even when you ask for OEM?

Does Amayama ship items that are not in TOYOTA package even when you ask for OEM? I buy from partsouq.com and 99% of the items come in sealed toyota packages, except crush washers, thermostat gasket comes in loose pack but I can tell those are OEM as I deal with OEM toyota parts since 1990.

I believe the last ball LBJs I ordered came in a brown box with no
red/white Toyota marking/decals anywhere. They looked identical to
the ones coming out (Amayama's from years ago that were in the
expected packaging), so I went with it. We'll see if they hold..!

2003 is a 4th Gen 4 Runner. So you may have better luck with recommendations and thoughts on that section of the forum. :-)

Shockingly, 32,000 km isn't horrible these days. That's five years of driving on my old VZN110 and about three years on the GRN215L. I avoid at all costs Moog, Mevotech and any re-boxed brand with bright colours on it.
