Radio issue

Hey guys,

After 26 years of owning my runner. The head unit quit on me.

I brought a new one from the salvage yards and when I plugged it in. Is not working, I check the fuse by the steering wheel and is good. There is power going to the cd player since I still can load a cd and eject a cd. The antenna works if I unplug the aux cord to the radio.

Where else can I look to get my radio back up and running?

Thank you

Are you sure your head unit went bad and not your factory amplifier? You may have also bought another bad 26 year old head unit. Have you considered swapping everything out for an aftermarket powered head unit? Places like Crutchfield include harness adapters which pretty much make it plug and play. It might even be the most cost effective route unless your getting your factory head units and factory amps from pick and pull.

The radio needs both continuous power and key on power to work. So check both the red and yellow wires at the plug for 12V+ with key on. If both good and you do have the factory amp, that is your next suspect. Not all HUs were made for the amp.
