Road noise after a transmission swap

I had a shop swap my failing transmission. When I picked it up after completed, I noticed alot more road noise coming from the 4wd shifter area. It has the obvious boot above, in the driver area. Wondering if they didn't forget to put something back up under the boot? Can not find diagrams that might show a missing piece. Something that I can look for that might be missing or ideas for noise deadening that would be easy to just shove up in there (and not start a fire)??

Friend did my swap - zero new noises - perfect.

They forgot something or not tightened well enough to seal. This diagram from FSM does not show anything obvious besides the cover plate you can see up top - hmmm maybe take those screws holding the shifter off to see what you do not see?

Pop off those panels down there. They may have forgotten or screwed up the rubber lower shift boot.

e-brake surround, then shifter surround.

they kept that odd dampner hanging off the transfer case? I wonder what that thing does.
