Remove pin stripe

First of all , I just want to wish all of you and your loved ones a Merry and Blessed Christmas . I just joined this site 2 weeks ago , and already I feel like Ive gained a world of knowlage about my SR5 Sport from you. So Thank you for being here . My question is this . My 4R is a 2001dark green and I would like to remove that stupid looking pin stripe. Problem is , its been on so long , its brittle . How can I remove it without damage to the paint ? Thanx

You can remove pinstripes without any chemicals by heating them up with a heat gun or blow dryer then peeling from one end. It helps to keep the blow dryer on the stripe as you peel.

I worked at a dealership for a couple of summers, and this is the technique we used.

I've been wanting to do this. Problem is I have a '96 and was afraid it would leave a shiney pinstripe. I was told that a wash and a good wax would make it ok. My question is when the wax wears out would I need to rewax? I normally keep a good coat of wax on, I just don't get to wax my 4runner as much in the winter.

You probably should do the old "test an inconspicuous spot". The paint may have changed color and removing the entire pinstripe will leave you with another type of pinstripe. I would gently remove a little of the stripe and see what the paint looks like underneath compared to the rest of the paint.

When I bought my '98 a few months ago she came with 2 sets of hideous pin stripes, the stock by the windows and also right above the running boards and then some lovely teal and purple ones that someone added later Needless to say they had to come off, so with my trusty hair dryer I was able to take them right off and it was not noticeable after a good wax. Mine 4R is white, I don't know if it would be any less noticeable on mine rather than your dark green?

what color is your 4runner? Because mine is silver and when i removed the pen stripe there is a difference in color even with a good wax. I even tried to get a body shop to buff it out and it dint work totally but it helped. But you really cant tell unless your right up next to it.
