4wd stopped working..

First off, I have a 2002 4runner sport 4wd.
It was snowing the other day and I pushed the 4wd button and the light flashed on and off like it was trying to go into 4wd but it never did. The light just kept flashing. So, I pushed the button again to turn it off and the light didn't go off, just kept flashing. I tried it a couple of times in neutral and park. Also turned off the vehicle and left it for a few hours and still nothing. The light has been flashing ever since so I'm not sure what to do.
Has anyone had this problem?

I have a 98 t4r and I had kind of the same scenario, but i have to shift mine into 4 wheel drive, when I would try to put it in 4 wheel drive the hubs wouldnt lock. I took it into have it looked at, and they found a vaccuum line was cracked. They changed it and i have had no problems since. So that might be what it is.

when that happened to me, i read to turn on the 4wd, put the car in reverse, and reverse for a little bit, and then drive forward again, and that should do the trick. i did just that, and presto...everything worked out just fine.
