Discount Tire Sucks A$$!

I got a nail stuck in my tire so I decided to go discount tire because they fix it for free. They fixed the nail and rotated my tires. So when they get done with it I go out to the car to look it over and there is a chip on the rim that had the nail stuck on it.

I was so pissed and went in to talk to the manager and they said that they wouldn't take responsibility for it because it was caused by the weight that was on the wheel before they started fixing it.

I am so disappointed my rims were in pristine condition until those idiots got to it. Do you guys have any rims stories? And also any ideas on how to fix my rims?

This shouldn't reflect on Discount as a whole since i've been using them for almost 18 years and never had a problem with them.

It's also adviseable to have your weights mounted on the backside of the rims to avoid the issue.

Agreed. But I've always had my tire work done by a family friend mechanic and also by tirerack and never had this issue prior to this. I know it's an unfair generalization, but it's still upsetting.

And since I bought my car used the tire weights were already on there.

add me to the list of scratched rims by idiot discount tire installers. to fix it they gave me 25% off the bill. nice of them to do but they shouldn't have scratched them in the first place.

Good to hear I'm not the only one with complaints. Did you do anything about the scratches I've heard that some rim shops can re-polish them? Not sure how accurate that info is or if the cost is even worth it.

What do you expect the big box tire stores are paying a 16yr old 6.50/hr to change tires on your $150.00 rims. They dont care about your truck or anyone elses for that matter. I had a shop run wheel weights all the way around a wheel before luckly I have been doing business there for 10 yrs and I know the owner. I let it go but the owner gave the kids a peice of his mind and some instruction to go with it.

There are reasons that Discount can offer tires pretty cheap and even offer discounts on top of that. I watch them do the work and I let teh guy up front that I'm picky about how my truck comes back so they almost always get it right the first time.

I agree with Ron, Discount tire/american tire co. kicks a$$ as a company, but I can't say much about some of the workers that they hire. Got my BFG's there and I had 2 of them replaced free under their replacement program.

By the way, the BFG at/ko's are a solid set of tires that can take a beating. I rolled over a 2 foot long solid steel rod on the freeway that got lodged inside my tire, and then shot up through the metal on the rear wheel well and through the plastic panel in the trunk area. Drove on it for a half mile at 70 mph before I even realized I had a flat.

Back to the discount tire story....when i pulled over to change the tire, i couldn't take it off because the numbskulls at discount tire replaced one of the lugnuts with a different size. Had to call a buddy to bring over a socket wrench set to remove the 6th lugnut. Guess they lost the original when i went the week before to get my tires rotated and balanced for free, and replaced it with a different sized spare.

Other than that, discount tire's been great, and I don't think i'd buy tires from anywhere else, ever. Great service and great prices.
