5 Speed Vs Automatic

So I have a 2000 SR5 5 Speed 4x4 and my friend has the exact same car, except in a 4 speed automatic. My friends automatic is bone stock, and my car only had exhaust mods at the time. My brother was driving my car and said he tried to race my friend and that the Automatic was faster! I didn't believe this, because every other manual transmission I have driven has beat its automatic twin! Do you guys think that the this was just a case of not driving the 5 speed correctly? Does anyone know where to find the 0-60 times for both a stock 5 speed and a stock automatic? Thanks!

well if your brother doesnt drive your car much he probly had a slow start and thats not going to happen in an automatic. I have an automatic and i can beat my friend who has a stick every time... no performance type mods on either of our runners. We have the same lift/wheels/and tires too.

Ya, a 5 speed will beat a 4 speed every time, (in theory), as long as the final drive is the same and as long as the 5 speed driver makes NO mistakes...which of course is nearly impossible.

A healthy running AOD will give an MT a run for it's money every time since all you have to do is floor it.

Personally though, I'd rather have a 5 speed in any circumstance other than bumper to bumper traffic...
