I have a 2000 4runner SR5 3.4L 159000. Recently check engine light came on with a low efficiency on cat1 bank1. I have Cali. emissions therefore I have two cats inline, which is bank1 and bank2. Also could there be something else causing this, A/F sensor maybe. I had to replace the muffler once and in doing so I had taken apart the entire exhaust and replaced gaskets. Than the check engine light went away by itself but now its back. The only thing I can think of is that I uplugged the O2 sensor to take everything apart. Please help toyota quoted $1000 a piece for each cat.
If you are saying the cats need replaced then get high flow cats on your own. Like Summit Racing sells them.
Are you in Cali or just the truck is from there-check your local laws of course-this may not be legal there.
Of course a muffler shop should be able to handle this. SHould be a bit cheaper than a Yota dealer -maybe not much.
edit- doh I see you are in NY

Join the military so you can register your car in any state then say F*** cali emissions and ram a crow bar through your cats. ok prob not very helpful
With check engine lights there are so many factors, O2 sensors etc. The best thing to do is have a shop run a diagnostic and get a read out. Its like $60. As for the cats I think they are universal so you'll have to pay a shop about an hour's labor to weld it in.
