If you know rock sliders for the 4Runners you may have seen the All Pro Offroad design with a small bump out at the rear doors.
I always kind of thought it was a bit odd sticking out like that-seemed to me that it would actually get in the way on a tight trail.
I can now speak from firsthand experience that bump out does a wonderful job in protecting the rear doors and serving as a pivot point to protect the rear quarter panels.
I recently did the Taylor Pass annual run from Aspen to Crested Butte. There is a steep descent into the Taylor Creek riverbed where it is actually legal to follow the creekbed for a small distance.
Strategically located boulders caught my Runner sliding off camber until my drivers side rock sliders made contact, then I could pivot my way the rest of the way down the slope. I had to unbuckle the seatbelt to view under my tires better and the steepness of the hill would not allow me to rebuckle.
So puckered up at both ends I gave her a little gas and other than a small scrape on the sliders-no body damage.
My hats off to those guys over there at ALL PRO-their design and build held up fine in the real world.
kpudden if you are out there sorry I missed ya in July or August whenever that was. Best of intentions and all that...
Yes I have a picture of the hillside in question but it's one of those pictures that don't do it justice one of shots.
I'll take you up there sometime and show you what I mean.
I can email you photos if you really care to see em but this photobucket hosting I find tedious as all get out.

yes you are right pnut it is not particularly hard to post up pics-
I have a photobucket account but I can literally spend an hour to post up 2 or 3 pics and it just is too tedious for my attention span.
I need like my own webmaster guru
