So I got my 99 4Runner back in March this year. I was reading the site written by JA... the one with all the 4Runner history.
This whole time, I was sure my 4Runner was base. It had no flares, no roof rack, no air deflector, and no SR5 badge.
Now what leads me to believe it may in fact actually be an SR5----
This is quoted from the site:
"SR5 grade level 4Runners now feature as standard heated outside mirrors, built-in map lights in the overhead console and cruise control."
Ok, well I have that...
"front power windows with one-touch auto-up/down functions and jam protection (optional in SR5 and 4Runner grades)"
Well that could still mean it's base... but I have that too.
"The SR5 grade adds several key features to upgrade its interior. A lighting package featuring an illuminated ignition key ring, ash tray and glove box light is included as standard equipment. Front map lights, power mirrors and door locks, a digital clock, tilt steering wheel, variable intermittent front and rear windshield wipers and standard cruise control round out the list of features. "
I have all of those...
According to many other sources, although it may be rare, there are SR5's with the 4cyl 2.7...
One last thing, I was looking at a vin site:
http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/ToyVIN.shtml
and although it kinda seems outdated, the info can still be used.
My model code is RZN180L -GKPSKA
According to the site, the S in that means "SR5"
If anyone has a way to check for me, I'd surely love to know.
My VIN: JT3GM84R2X0044011
Model Code: RZN180L - GKPSKA
Another little coincidence... there's two large scratches in my rear tailgate that have been covered in touch up paint just about where an SR5 badge could have been located...
So can anyone tell me, is my truck an SR5 or base?
(I have a roof rack, fender trim, and air deflector since getting it :P)
