Ohh so loosen up the left nut and tighten the right one... Now I understand. I'm probably gonna start doing that soon (Saturday)

Checked mine, was loose, tightened it and it idled too high, loosened it to get the 750 idle and it's loose again. Pedal seems wiggly now, too.

Just did this myself and I definitely could tell a difference. Didn't think that it would make such an improvement.

My 2000 runner idles just over 1,000 RPM (cold start). I assume that's too high? I haven't adjusted my cables yet, just took note of pedal response and idle RPM. Going to check my cables now.

Checked it out again. Actually it idles cold at 1500 RPM, but once warmed up sits idle at about 500 rpm. Will tighten the cable to bring it to ~700 RPM.

I regret having messed with my throttle after reading this thread.
A few weeks back I adjusted all the cables and set the idle to 1000, pulled the slack out of the other cables and after driving it a few weeks something just seemed wrong.
It is fixed now but only because I had a pro reset the cables to factory specs. Afterwards I was told that what happens is actually that the pedal gets bent over time, not that the cables stretch out.
The cables just look stretched out because they are old. The solution for the "loose pedal" is to bend the pedal back, not mess with the wires because doing so confuses the Toyota computer.
This is what I was told anyways. All I know is that now that I got it looked at, it is idling and shifting better.

You're only supposed to tighten the cables enough to get the slack out. Not pull the throttle mechanism so much your idle increases. The computer is in charge of the idle speed.
Why did you want it at 1000rpm?

I did only tighten them enough to "get the slack out" but since this method is kind of like "eyeballing it" it didn't work out very well for me.

Similar thing here. I was able to tighten them up today and it help some but there is still slack, mainly in the cruise control cable. However it is at the end of it's threads on the nut. Is there anything else I can do to tighten it up even more?

Skip this supposed mod. It is not worth the trouble.
