There’s a spec for the trans pressure cable. Protector protrudes so many mm. It’s not much.

You could probably just adjust it and not replace it. TPS is on the throttle body itself. I’ve done that for over a year now since the rubber cushion was busted.

That said, I do have a new one, only because I’ve changed everything else on this 4runner so why stop now…

Did this today with the truck running as to make sure not to pull the cable too much. Works like a charm.

There's only two reasons to replace the cable outright:

1. There's damage to the cable sheathing and the cable binds up and won't open or close the throttle.
2. The cable has stretched to the point that there is no thread left to tighten the cable.

I had 2. happen on mine so bought a new cable. Throttle feel is relatively unchanged, maybe a tad bit less resistance but the slack was no longer an issue.

That's my understanding as well. And even if you've got a little cable stretch, you can eliminate slack by replacing/repairing (or even extending) that little rubber grommet on the pedal-end of the throttle cable. Throttle response is unchanged. Just no play:

Nice, thank you! Good to know that I can use that rubber hose trick if the throttle cable stretches out more (I already used up most of the adjustment threading).
