there wouldnt be any slack while your truck is on the ground. you will have to visually inspect them. how many miles do you have on your truck? is the rubber bushing appear dry rotted or have ANY holes in it at all? can you stick a safety pin needle into it easily?

i have the same issue with my wifes 01. toyota offers the bushings they were $37 each. i am looking for poly bushings for mine. if i can not find them i will have some made at my local machine shop. the orignal ones are just pressed in. the condition seemed to get more pronounced after i replaced the shocks.

got the same problem with mine. Replaced the entire front end. Balljoints, tie rods, sway bar, etc. Rear end looks fine. New tires too. I've had 3 mechanics look at it. Can't figure out what the deal is. Only thing I haven't done is replace the shocks.

I have the exact same problem and it too got much worse when the shocks were replaced. Found a broken stabalizer bar link in the front and a bad ball joint at the same wheel. I replace them and it helped a little but still need 2 hands over 65. The rear end seems tight but am going to start taking bars off this weekend. It's almost like the rear end is doing the twist.

replace the bushings in the track bars that connect from the frame to the axle. the bushings get pounded out and that lets the axle move forward or back whenever it wants and creating the death wobble at high speeds. the bushings are available at you toyota dealer and they are the same for either end of the bar. i replaced them on my wifes and the problem went away.

Are any of you folks with the wandering problem lifted in the front and if so, how much?
Are you lifted in the rear and if so, are you running the stock panhard bar?

Same issue here. Initially with stock suspension, no sway whatsoever. Installed Daystar spacers, sway appeared (Had Tokico Trekmasters at that point). Removed spacers, installed new OME's (2880 and 2890) and KYB's for a stiffer ride, sway is still there but pretty sure related to the lift. Will check suspension tomorrow...

This is depressing. I have the same problem. On the interstate, I feel like I'm on a magic carpet ride. My 7 y.o. gets sick if we go above 60 for any extended period of time it moves so much, L & R, not just up and down. A guy followed me off the interstate into a gas station to ask me if I'd changed my rear shocks lately (Yes, about 8-9 months ago, but no help). Was hoping to find an answer here...

Different ppl have had different resolve but nothing pin point... That I am aware of yet. I think the #1 so far has been the Rack bushing and#2 Ball joints upper and lower, #3 Front and rear struts and shocks. I think it has all to do with what u find under inspections personally.

Toyota turmoil

I have checked the sway-bar and end links, shocks, ALL 4point connections to the rear end housing and tire pressure.
Only thing that keeps coming to mind that I have done to the truck lately is 1.5" wheel spacers.
I check the torque again and it is right on the money.
I even removed them and ran a few days without them and have the same problem.
Any help or suggestions will be appreciated.

99 toyota four runner...lots of miles.
My neighbor just told me about this rear end death wobble! He said he had expereanced this at 70mph, with old tires. Had new tires mounted and balanced, alignment checked. this didnt seem to help. but noticed that if loaded down with trailer and kids it wouldnt do it.( this has all stock suspension)this sounds like possible suspension geometrey issue. maybe bushing are worn, but something has to cause the vibration. posible ujoint binding or siezed . just a thought!

Yes I'm quoting my own post. Now a 6 year old thread and no definitive answer.

Yeah, I have a Pathfinder like that in my driveway, scary stuff! Also a different setup if I remember correctly.
