Defroster grid only in right side rear window?

Had one of those rare warm and dry winter days. So I had take advantage of it so I detailed the 4Runner.

I noticed that I see what looks like defroster grids in the right side rear window. Did not think much if it until I was cleaning the same window on the left side. I did not see any defroster grids in the left rear window like the right. I thought it was a bit odd. I checked the windows and all windows except the windshield are OEM Toyota. So it seems likely the windows on the doors and back left and right were ever replaced.

Is it supposed to be this way?

If so only theory I can come up with is to clear the back right rear window of fog so you can see better when changing lanes and so forth. Its not necessary on the left side since its out of the field of vision.

^ Exactly. I don't like how it looks. I think it is only noticable from the inside though.

Interesting I would have never guessed that it was the AM antenna.

It would have looked better if they had the same lines in the left rear window just so it matches. I guess doing so would cost to much money.

When I originally discovered the anomaly my first reaction was that window got broken in the past and they did not put the right one back in and nobody cared. Usually when you see that sort of thing its not an OEM window.

Thats why I love this site, I learn something new almost every time I come back. I like you assumed that it was defrost lines. LOL

I thought it was a defroster for years. Every time my rear defroster was on, that back corner also freed up so... It's easy to make that mistake! But yeah, it's an antenna.

I still think a defroster in that area would be nice for the head check/lane change issue.
