Another wheel painting question (gun metal not black)

i was talking to a pretty knowligable friend about rim painting, and he made the comment that when manufactures do gun metal colored rims, such as the ones on the sequoia, they do a coat of chrome under the gun metal color to give it a shiny finish, does anyone know if this is true or not? also i've asked this before but would gun metal be good color on my car?

It would look sweet. I couldn't decide between gun metal and black myself. I made the right choice for my White Runner though.

I wondered the same thing. I have the same ones and I'm trying to figure out what to do with them. I would love to rhino line them.

In my opinion, gun metal wouldn't look that great on your color 4Runner. I'm not sure the colors would look good together. Just my opinion though, if you like it- go for it!

Painting a layer of chrome under the gunmetal probably isn't a good idea. Whoever thought of that is way off. The factory wheels are just powdercoated straight onto the aluminum. I'd just give your wheels a cleaning them scuff them lightly and paint away.

gunmetal will look fine with the color and the chrome bumpers shouldn't make it stand out all that much
