Mobil 1 5w30

hey guys,

I'm thinking about switching over to Mobil 1 5w30.

I have close to 200 k miles soon.

Currently, I'm running toyota oil with their filter.

Is it too late to change or should i stick with the factory oil?

I picked it up for about $4 dollars an quart.

Oi is oil is oil, at least in my book. As long as your not making big changes in viscosity, I think your all-right. Also stay away from Penzoil and Quakerstate. They are a parafin based oil which apparently leaves residue in your engine. So maybe I should rethink my first line. Aaa whatever.

I've been running Mobil 1 synth 5w30 for the last 20k using the oil filter for a taurus sho, now at 209xxx and I haven't regretted it, plus you can legitimately wait 7000 between oil changes with no ill effects as long as you check your levels

Not exactly.

Conventional oil is oil.

Once you get into the synthetics there's significant differences.

I've been using Mobil1 10w-30 since 74k, I'm at 144k now and have no regrets.

You said you're using "genuine toyota" oil? Stop throwing away money, they use Regular AGIP oil like everyone else.

Synthetic oil is the way to go no matter what your mileage. It is up to you to choose your brand as many people have preferences. I have used Mobil 1 5w-30 for 50,000 miles with no problems and excellent results. I have heard great things about Royal Purple too. Moving away from conventional oil will help your engine in many aspects.

alright, I have 18 quarts of Mobil 1 in the garage.

What filter would you recommend?

With mobil 1. What should my mileage be when i change the oil?

3000, 5000, 7500 or 10,000?

thanks.

I know oil is a highly debated subject, the key is regualr changes whether it is 3k-4k miles with conventional, or 7500 with syn. I have a Land Cruiser with 320k miles when I sold it and it and only run conventional oil. I still see the guy who bought it driving around so who know how many miles it has now.

A good filter is also key.

I use the stock Toyota filter that comes with the pre-lubed seal. I have also heard great things about the Purolator PureOne oil filter too.

I change mine at 5,000 miles each time. I have not sent off my oil to have it analyzed but it has looked good at each change. I am sure it could go the 7,500 or more that others suggest but the oil filters are really meant to run in the 5,000 mile range. You could drain the oil and reuse it with a new filter but the price of oil for a change has never made me do that.

If you want to send your oil off a good place isBlackstone Laboratories

Hope that helps, D

my personal recommendation would be Mobil1 with a genuine toyota filter (YZZ-G1)

if you're under 125k go with 5w-30, if you're over I'd go with 10w-30

and change it every 5000-7500, I do every 5k

I run 5/30 Mobile 1 in the winter and the 10/30 high mileage in the summer. I use a Quaker State filter . In regards to mileage , my friend who works at a diesel shop just had his Mobile 1 , 5/30 analyzed at 9985 miles , he has a 3rd Gen V6 . Its more than he usually goes per change, the results came back and to no shock it did not need changing even at that mileage. He said because of the results he is going to try and stretch that even further , purely for testing and see what the test results are at 11,000 miles next time .
Has anyone here ever bothered to do an oil analysis? I change mine at 7500 miles now and will stick to that ,good to know though that Mobile 1 can go quite far.
