I saw a video where someone custom made a block off plate for the stock center brake light with a hole through the middle of it for the wires. Do you guys do anything like that or is it just a figure it out type of deal? Also for the average guy, how long would this take to install?

I'm pretty sure I know which video you're talking about. If that's the case that one was different from the burtman one as the one he got was an OEM hilux surf spoiler that was shipped from japan. I do not know if burtman's spoiler has the same cover up but I'm sure he'll respond soon. Hope that helps!

This is a much better setup. That was the old Jaos spoiler, which you had to drill a hole in the old 3rd brake, and you'd see the wire running through. This is much cleaner and it's a simple wire tap in the bundle of wires that comes out of the tailgate which is already there. The instructions tell you what wire to tap too The old unit also had a sketchy metal clamp system for mounting which ended up scratching the roof and marred the paint over time. No issues with this newer design either. Also, the top was extended on this one to cover the old holes if you had the factory metal spoiler.

Just to clear things up a little concerning the legit japan spoilers.. There is nothing sketchy about the metal clamp system they came with. Mine is mounted solid with zero issues. Also, I put down 3m clear vinyl under the brackets and even where it contacts the sides which is something I would do with any spoiler regardless of who made it just as a matter of protection. My legit spoiler also came with a brake light block off plate with the hole in the center with all the needed grommets and the fitment and visual appeal is awesome. No wire tapping is needed either as everything uses factory plugs. You cant see any wiring or weird mounting. You would have to be 7ft tall and be able to walk by and look down from the top to see anything! So I just want to clear it up that your aftermarket spoiler is great.. but much better is debatable. Either is a great option for someone wanting that look. And for what its worth I could take mine off today and mount a factory spoiler in short order without any indication there was ever anything else on there which is what I like best.
2 cents given :/

Agreed 100% the Jaos ones are just a cheap knockoff of the OEM Spoiler never had issue with my oem spoiler and the Jaos one but i prefer the fit and finish on the oem part.

The Jaos spoiler is long gone and is no longer made. I had many complaints with the top of the hatch getting scratched from the metal brackets on the old unit. It happened to every one, BUT, that was a smart idea with the 3M clear bra material. Very smart.
We took the mold of the Jaos unit and made this one, again, with the top portions extended to COVER the existing 6 holes that will be there if you had the factory metal wind deflector installed. This was just a more feasible option (about 85% of 4Runners have that factory metal deflector. I've sold both so this isn't biased. This is the most secure option currently at the lowest price.
