Does anyone know where the ignitor is on a 96-02 4runner?

The Ignition Coil is different within the 3rd gens. There's one for 96-97 2.7 liter, one for 98-00, one for the 3.4 etc.

On the 2001 and 2002 there are three Ignition Coils they are on the top side of the motor and under the throttle body (air duct) on the passenger side.

They look like this:

I dont' know for sure how many different Ignition Coils there are. How about adding a little info about your rig to help us out?

I am talking about the ignitor itself, part of the ICM

?? Maybe I'm misunderstanding. Sorry if that's the case. The igniter and the ICM are the same thing as far as I knew. On my 2001 4runner the igniter/ICM is in the engine bay, on the passenger wheel well, behind the airbox.

What year is your 4runner?

I've attached a picture showing the location of the igniter. I think glenyosida was correct in his post since he described the right location. Probably just a terminology thing there.

Basically P1300 means that the ECM is not receiving a confirmation signal for two or more ignitions in a given cycle.
The EMC determines the ignition timing and outputs the ignition signal for each cylinder. Based on this signal, the igniter controls the primary ignition signal for all ignition coils. At the same time, the igniter sends a confirmation signal to the ECMs.

I'll scan and post the troubleshooting procedure tomorrow, but the first things to check in order are;
1. Spark plugs
2. harnesses and connectors
3. Igniter

Thanks everyone. Wondering why my truck is still running good? Sounds like if the signal is bad, very bad stuff should be happening... sputtering, stalling, etc.

Techno, you have been a great help. Is there anyway to give you rep points or something?

One last thing, say i change the spark plugs, and that fixes it, will the code automatically reset, or do i need to disconnect the battery to rest?
