Just stopped by the shop, truck up on lift, new tires are mounted, shocks struts and coils about to go on...shop found a broken drivers side sway bar end unit, nice catch, thats a quick $100 in parts but would prob explain all the damn veering i've been feeling lately. Anyone have experience working with any of the products which remove surface rust chemically and clean the undercarriage real well? This shop is also able to build a swing out spare tire carrier and any bumper work i'd like done. bunch of young guys, motor heads that know their stuff.

i have alot of experience with fighting rust when restoring my old vw's ,
there is no such thing as a chemical rust killer, it merely encapsulates it and converts it, anything short of getting a wire wheel out and doing it right may still have issues in the future and require upkeep, depends on your needs how much rust and all of that, here is a shoot out a guy did of various rust products

other products people use

personally i'd just clean it up right with a wire brush or softer grinder and then spray with some por-15 then rhino line to go the extra distance, you should post some pics so we can see how bad this is.

i figured the wire brush was going to be my best bet. the rust is very minor, not anywhere close to being a problem. just thinking of things to do that dont cost money.

I also agree with the wire brush. The other day when I was under my truck I discovered a broken end link on my front sway bar and that the bushings were toast and one was completely gone. Time for the poly bushings with the grease fitting mounts someone mentioned in another thread. Cant wait to see the pics in a few hours when it is done.

Poly bushings are stiffer and longer wearing then the soft rubber ones. I know in the other thread they were mentioned in that you could get the sway bar bushing with new clamps that had grease fittings. This is good because it helps them last and keeps them from squeeking.

The lift is done, shop says truck drives amazing. They are on their way back from picking up the only tie rod in the city that will fit my rig as it broke during alignment. They are taking care of the charge for that piece, nice of them. Another hour or so...

Rig is now back in my garage. I apologize for not posting pics yet, but its dark out and my outdoor lighting isnt sufficient. IT LOOKS AMAZING. The 881s/906s caused the truck to have a LEVEL stance now which looks incredible, and the NTG tires 265/75/16 are the perfect size. Could have done 285s, but for what I wanted, the need to switch wheels would probably have been there and I like the stock rims too much. Next post will be a thread with pics.

i only got to drive it about 5 feet, from the driveway into the garage (i now clear it by about 4 inches). The shop mgr brought it back home for me as it was a little late to take the infant out. But he said he beat the hell out of it and it drives ridiculously well.
