testament to the 3rd Gen build quality!!

Today I was out doing my rounds and came up to a pretty bad car accident. Luckily by the looks of things nobody was injured. The accident involved a red maroon colored 3rd Gen 4Runner (96-98 style) SR5 the latest model Nissan Altima and last but not least a fairly late model Chevrolet 1500 2WD truck.

I did not see the accident happen but basically the Altima got sandwiched between the 4Runner's rear end and the front of the Chevy 1500 truck. After the accident the only vehicle that looked drivable was the 4Runner. The Altima's front end was completely smashed in almost to the window. Only damage on the 4Runner that I can see is the chrome rear bumber, trailer hitch was pushed in and down about 6 inches and slightly twisted.

The rear of the Altima was no better. It was pushed in almost to the rear window by the Chevy 1500 truck. What was amazing though was the front end of the Chevy 1500 truck was also completely smashed to the firewall. The impact was so bad the roof of the Altima was buckled as well and started to cave in like an accordion and the bed of the Chevrolet truck had started to twist. I guess they are not built like a rock after all.

I am guessing the 4Runner was more badly damaged then it looked and some of that hardware down there might be costly to replace but at least it was still drivable and likely repairable. The Altima and Chevy truck on the other hand are a total loss.

This sort of thing is nothing new to the forum. We have seen countless videos and pictures of the 4Runner getting hit by vehicles 10 times its size and weight and coming out the winner. I just wanted to share what I saw today. Sorry no pictures...traffic was a PITA and the scene was flooded with cops. I tell you I feel much safer in my 4Runner then most other vehicles. Even ones considerably bigger then the 4Runner. Seeing all the wrecks this design has taken and coming out in one piece is a real testament to how well Toyota builds trucks.

Glad to hear that nobody was injured from the accident.

Just another unfortunate accident that further proves the high quality of 4Runners.
