HELP-radio antenna not going up w/Pioneer

I installed a used Pioneer head unit in my 01 4Runner today. It sounds great when playing a CD however, the reception is terrible on FM. My antenna is not going up. The CD player only had one plug for the antenna in the back and I was not able to plug in the small plug that was in the factory unit. What do I need to do to get the automatic antenna to go up and get better reception? Thanks for your help!

Is the antenna wire separate from the harness? The wire labeled "power antenna" from the harness is connected to a blue wire with a gray strip from the radio. There is also a blue wire that loops at the end of the harness plug. It comes out of the power ant. port and into the port next to it.

My pioneer "amp turn on" wire (the blue wire) is connected to the P/A wire on the metra wiring harness. (That's how the manual even said to wire it.)

Also, you won't hook up the smaller antenna cable that was on the factory...that is for the antenna on the passenger rear window...but won't work with an aftermarket head unit without some type of adapters or something.

Like this. Post #4: http://www.4runnerforum.com/forum/showthread.php?p=6010

It turns each individual antenna into one big antenna. I'll be trying this soon.
