Glove compartment lock
I bought my 99 used and the keys will not open the glove box. Any solutions or workarounds for my dilema? I would like to lock up my GPS or other valuables when I go to the city.

looks like you have a valet key(s)
go to the dealer, they can cut you a new key from your VIN that will work for everything...make sure you ask for a master key, though...not another valet key

Another one of them undocumented secrets. I have a lock, it does not work.
Great, I check with the dealer.

If you have any other keys then try those as well. I have 2 master keys but one is too worn to lock the glove compartment. The valet key is grey and the masters are black, fyi. Looks like either way you will be heading to the dealer though. . .

Bumping this because my glove box is not opening as well. I locked it and unlocked it a few times recently and went today to get my ipod out of it and no luck. The lock will not release and I've used both keys. Any help?

Idk about fixing the lock. But if you need to get it apart, then there are two bolts underneath the glove box, if you take those out then you should be able to pull out the glove box. Not too positive if it will come out though if it's locked.

I tried that and no luck. It is still attached. Really annoying because I don't know what I will do if I get pulled over.

Drill it out. And buy a new lock. That's all I got then if trying to remove the glove box didn't work.

It was news to me as well, but now I wish I didn't notice it. I'm going to spray some pb blaster in it tomorrow to maybe loosen up the locking mechanism.

Mann thats sucks..Worst comes to worst, you can call a locksmith and get a quote right? Might be cheaper than drilling out and buying a new lock. Im too scared to start using the lock on mine now lol

If you need your stuff, you can always get the glovebox out by unscrewing the bottom.
Probably easier to mess with it out of the truck, too haha

i have know about mine and use it when the doors are off, with the center console locked too. but mine works great. i dont think undoing the bottom would do it, or even if drilling it out would.
