Dies after start/low idle on warm start

Hello all,

Found this forum a couple of days ago and have some questions. I have a 98 4Runner V6, recently it's been sort of temperamental. If it's a cold start there is no issue, however about 60% of the time on a warm start it will die immediately after starting. For example, if I've been driving for anywhere from 5 - 45 minutes and go to a gas station and turn it off and start it when I come out about 3-5 minutes later it starts right up and then dies. It will stay running if I feather the gas for a minute and drive out of the lot using the brake and gas; about a minute or two of this and it usually is fine. I have used Seafoam, injector cleaner, new air filter, new plugs - thoughts on what else to try? I saw a post on here about Seafoam stating there were other things you should manually clean after using Seafoam, what all should I look at?

Thank you in advance

Hi and welcome to the board.
Sounds like you're on the right track as far as trouble shooting this issue. Sounds like the engine is running too lean prior to warm up, but then also seems to be lacking fuel pressure after sitting still. There are a few other things to inspect, like fuel filter and MAF sensor. Research cleaning the MAF sensor next, since this helps control the fuel/air mixture.

I had a smiliar problem a couple years ago. But mine was dying duing cold starts. After a few minutes of holding the accellerator down, it ran okay. I had to replace the Idle Air Control Valve and it started up like new.

Thank you for this suggestion, I took the MAF out and cleaned it using the CRC MAF cleaner. I also took the entire intake apart and cleaned it and cleaned off the butterfly valve. Starts up perfect now, I haven't had the problem since. Thank you for your help with an annoying situation.
