Im looking for a 4 runner and want it to ultimately look like this

Here's one im considering buying, what would it take? can u paint the bumpers black? or should i just look for a Sport edition..

btw, do u think this is a good deal?
http://orlando.craigslist.org/ctd/1444481675.html

he said he would do $7k for as the final price w/ tax tag and title can prob talk him down a bit more. and its got 144k miles

Well those are two different bumpers. The painted is a 99+ and the 4Runner you're considering is a 96-98 bumper. I don't think I've ever seen a 96-98 bumper painted OEM. (I have seen them painted matte black with spray paint, though)

As for the 4runner you're looking at, we need more details.

Year
Locker
Maintenance (plugs, filters, water pump, timing belt, etc)
4wd or 2wd
Auto or Manual

hey, $7k seems steep for a 2wd, unless it's mint i would say $5.5k-$6k.

$7,000 is overpriced for a 2wd, in my opinion.

Did you keep looking for problems after that?

Maybe the guy really wants a 2wd, so we should take it easy on him. Either way, I agree with the people above, $7k seems a little steep for this particular 4R.

I think you should look for a '99 highlander edition. It will look the most like the one in the pic you posted which means less mods to get the look you want. The sport hood addition alone could easily run into $500 with the hood itself, hood insulator, and paint. If you don't want or need 4WD I can understand that, but you should at least be looking at a '99-'02 based on the pic you posted

I painted my 96-98 bumpers. I bought all new paintable bumpers which are available for the base model for our years. They are the same as the chrome, they just come matte black and ready to sand and paint. Pretty easy if you can do the paint and assembly/disassembly yourself.
Here are some pics.
