Spacer vs Suspension lift????

I just about 2 months ago bought a 98 4runner. I want to do a 3in lift but my funds are tight due to a new baby on the way. Can you still 4wd with spacers or is it not a good idea? Then i was looking at the ome 3in lift and that seems to be better but then i will get scalded by my 6 month pregnant wife for spending that $...Any help would be appreciated.4 runner newbie...Also im sure there is another thread about this somewhere else im just to lazy to find it.

Yes, you can take your truck offroad with a spacer lift. However, I do not think that you'll find 3" spacers on the market...
