Cargo area vent

I did search with no results and was just curious what the vent in the drivers side rear panel in the cargo area is for.

It vents to the outside via a vinyl flap. The purpose is to equalize pressure in the cabin and provide a way for air to move front to back. Closing your doors would be more difficult without it, and heating/cooling the air in the cabin would take longer.

Thank You. This leads to my second question:
What if the vinyl flap had a hole in it? Just discovered the flap last night and could feel that there was a portion of it missing, is this something I would need to get replace right away or shouldn't be to concerned about?

I wouldn't worry about it. It's protected by your side bumper cover, so the only way water might get in is if you spend a lot of time at the high-pressure car wash. It's probably not worth the effort to replace it.

Alright, sounds good, thank your for the helpful replies. Still trying to learn the ends and outs about this 4runner, just got it about 3 weeks ago.

No problem! I've had mine for a little more than a year, and it gets better all the time. I've had my share of issues, taking on some problems that the previous owner passed on. It's starting to feel like a good friend now!
