Are you thinking of picking one up?

Good info. I have actually already placed my order and am in the process of waiting for delivery. I may have to see if I can get mine widened, if it's not too late. I don't have flares yet but I may go with them in the future. Either way I think if the bumper sticks out a little on either side it's good as it will help protect the rear quarters.
Did you have any fitment issues with the bumper? I could go browse your thread.... lol

Hey COB I noticed you got that Cherry bomb muffler, is this the one you got?
Cherry Bomb Glasspack Muffler, Cherry Bomb Glass Pack
It's like 45-75 I think in cost. I have a 1997 and was wondering would that work on mine? and also does the degree angle make a difference? Also I have no idea what the inlet outlet size would be on my truck or if the length would be better short or long. First time I'll be putting a muffler. I just want it to be loud and better than my stock one lol. thanks for any info dude loved reading about your conversion too!

Bumper was a little bit of a mess to put on since so much can change during the welding process... but overall, it fits great. I don't know if it's fault of my installation or this particular bumper, but the left side of the bumper does not sit as level as the right side. You'll be drilling a million and a half holes so I am pretty sure you'll get it to fit correctly the first time.
Congrats on the bumper, too!

#1: Cherry bomb glasspacks are LOUD... like super incredibly embarrassingly loud.
I wouldn't change to a Cherry bomb again unless I literally had no other choice. It was fun for a week or two, but getting pulled over gets annoying fast. I am not sure of the exhaust diameter for the V6... sorry about that.
As far as angles... I am not sure that the exhaust system on a 4Runner is quite intricate enough to where angles or anything will matter, but I haven't the knowledge for certain. That or I've misunderstood your question.
I'd suggest finding yourself another muffler. I found my current muffler for $45 online. At least it's not something urgent in case you need to foot a few more bucks here or there.
Thanks for the compliments, man!
Let's skip back to yesterday:
Engine is in the Probe. Check it out: COB's 89 PGT
Where the Probe last left off, we could not progress any further without a new thermostat and some bolts that were misplaced during the engine removal. This meant a trip to Pick Your Part was in order.
After getting all of the required bolts, a new Mazda plate for the valve cover, a thermostat, and some Mitsubishi Eclipse wheels. Just as we were leaving, an impound yard owner was dropping off two vehicles for junking, one of those vehicles being a 1st gen 4Runner with 3rd gen 5 stars.
I got into my truck, pulled around the lot to the driver and asked him a few questions.
They were leaving that 4Runner there for $800. Some specs: 1987 (IFS ) 4Runner 4x4 TURBO. Has over 225k, sitting since 2009 for unknown reasons of mechanical failure.
I could NOT let them crush that thing. It was too pretty. Literally, seconds away from offering them $1000 for it, he offers it to me for $900.
Check out my new first gen!: COB's 87 4Runner Turbo

I'm so extremely jealous right now. I have been wanting a 1st gen since 05 when my 1st gen was totaled. Looks like you have quite a few projects on your hands.
Also, I will be in Thousand Oaks June 8-12 and it'd be awesome to meet up on Sunday if you have time. Hoping to meet some of the SoCal guys.

Great find!! I'm never that lucky when looking for parts. I'm sure it will be a nice truck when you are done. I look forward to the build up.

x2!!! Sweet find!
It actually makes me a little sad that I sold my old Turbo 4Runner!
Here's a link to my Turbo 4Runner build thread; I go over a lot of the Turbo specific problems, issue's, and modifications in that build thread. You can also PM me if you have any specific questions, I don't know for sure if I'll be able to answer it but I'll try.

I just love how you progressed through every generation. 1st gens are definitely cool trail rigs!
Yes, lets get a group together! I work on weekends unfortunately. Typing this from work right now (my main T4R time haha).
I can try to get that day switched. It's still early enough that we might be able to make a fun run if you're heading down with the 4Runner. My 4Runner has some issues that I'd like to address before doing anything crazy, but I'm still down for something moderately difficult.

Thank you. It's looking great so far, needs a lot of TLC and a head gasket. I'm sure the time will come around someday that you'll find just the project you're looking for, when you least expect it.

Man, I had to by a new keyboard after reading your 3rd gen build thread. So much drool.
Just went through your 1st gen build and now I've gotta change my pants and get some paper towels...
I appreciate the offer to help, I will certainly keep you in mind when I need something answered, if your build thread doesn't answer them already! haha.
I would imagine you have lots of extra parts, too. I sure wish I could pull of the metal fab work you can. If you're at all interested in making some sweet 1st gen parts, you know I'd want some. I don't even know where to start once it's running.
Check out the latest TurboRunner update! COB's 87 4Runner Turbo

SWEET! I thought I'd pull a C.O.B yesterday, and inquire about a Red 1st Gen I've seen sitting in a Plant Nursery parking lot since the winter. Talked to a family member of the owner, who advised that it really wasn't for sale, but if someone were to give them $3000 - $4000, they'd let it go! I was like, FOGETABOUTIT! LOL! The family member agreed that it was drastically over priced, so we just laughed it off.
I'm gonna keep my eye on it, as it's in decent shape, just needs some minor body work. The Undercarriage looks like mine, all greasy and oiled up, which is a plus around here!
Good luck with the build up C.O.B! It will be a fun little project for you!

Make sure you check the front timing chain cover for wear. The plastic timing chain guides like to break and the chain will wear on the d/s of the cover, there is a coolant passage right in that spot and it will leak the coolant into the oil. You'll end up with some taste chocolate milk!
If the chain has made any contact with the cover I would replace it, it's also a good idea to buy the steel backed timing chain guides while your in there.
